About

Rice Project was founded by Edward Rice in 2013 to provide construction management services for bespoke architectural build projects. With a background in traditional boatbuilding and carpentry he has a real understanding different construction methods, materials and solutions.

Edward has in-depth experience working on unique and contemporary designs, having worked in collaboration with some of the most accomplished architects. He has worked on several award winning schemes, including as a carpenter on the Stirling Prize shortlisted ‘Savill Garden Gridshell’ by Glen-Howells Architects (2011), and Construction Manager on the RIBA Awards winning ‘Watson House’ by John Pardey Architects (2011), RIBA Award winning Canoe Lake Leisure Tennis Pavilion by PAD studio (2018) and the highly commended Wood Awards ‘Woodpeckers’ by Ström Architects (2016.)

Services

Rice Projects provides project and construction management services with a particular specialism in bespoke, contemporary architectural design and detailing.

Working across a broad range of clients and organisations, our portfolio of private new build houses, public sports buildings, heritage restoration projects and modern extensions.

Rice Projects produces buildings of the highest quality using a procurement route that can provide our clients with real savings in both, time and money as well as providing flexibility and control over the project.

Unlike a traditional main contractor we manage projects directly for our client.  As such, we are focused on meeting the client’s needs rather than maximising the profits of a main contractor. Our services include:

  • Early involvement and advice at the design stage

  • Cost plans

  • Build programmes

  • Tendering and appointment of subcontractors

  • Site setup

  • Coordination and supervision of building works

  • Cost control and monitoring

  • Finish and handover

Teamwork

Rice Projects understands that it is the performance of the team that is at the root of project success. From the subcontractors, through the design consultants, to the client, Rice Projects provides coordination and support to ensure that everyone is working towards the same goal efficiently and effectively.

Architecture

We put great emphasis on working in collaboration with architectural teams, understanding the concept of a scheme so that the design intent informs the construction process and detail, ensuring that the concept is not lost along the way and the final product is realised as it was first designed. Due to our rigorous approach and detailed way of working we have been fortunate to work with some of the most admired Architectural Practices, creating truly stunning and award winning properties.

We place a particular emphasis on the relationship between the construction manager, the architect and the client, enhancing the build process and ensuring the journey runs as smoothly as possible.

Please get in touch if you wish to discuss a project.

Testimonials:

‘Edward has now project managed the build of 6 JPA houses including the Watson House that went on to be shortlisted for the RIBA Manser Medal.
We have found that the construction management approach that Rice Projects offer married with the extremely personable character of Edward and his team are well suited to private clients building a new home. The client is assured that Rice Projects are focussed on delivering their dream home rather than maximising contractor profit; communication is direct and driven by seeking optimal solutions. For these reasons I chose Rice Projects to manage the build of a house for my own family - the build went smoothly, to budget and resulted in a wonderful family home.’

John Pardey Architects

‘PAD studio have worked with Rice Projects on several occasions and have been delighted by the attention to detail shown, the quality of the end product and their friendly collaborative approach to construction. They always go above and beyond, ensuring that the end result is the best that it can possibly be, whilst making the process is enjoyable for everyone involved. We firmly believe that Rice Projects unique approach to construction offers the client best value for money, leaving more available to be spent where it matters – on the building.’
